Tokaido

Tokaido is the Japanese brand that shaped the modern karate gi in 1956: before then, karate was practised in everyday clothing or judo gis. Founded in Tokyo, it is the oldest manufacturer of uniforms designed specifically for karate and has been regarded as a global industry standard for over sixty years. Its gis are hand-sewn by experienced karateka using cotton fabrics processed according to centuries-old Japanese textile traditions. Competition lines such as Kata Master are WKF-approved and incorporate technologies such as Ultimate Sound, which makes the execution of techniques audible. Alongside its gis, Tokaido also offers Made in Japan obi belts, protective equipment, bags and apparel, from the traditional dojo to the tatami at World Championships.
